I’m an amateur saltwater angler from the Jacksonville Beach/North Florida region who loves being on the water. As a Florida native, I have been fishing, hunting and lobstering for as long as I can remember. My love for fishing started as a small child, fishing offshore in the Florida Keys with my father and grandfather for Mahi. What really got me hooked was fishing the backwaters of the Ten-Thousand Islands where we caught Snook, Redfish and Trout. There was nothing better than watching the water under the mangroves explode, as a Snook gulped down my bait. Well nothing except maybe hearing the drag sing afterwards.
Now that I call Jax Beach home, I’m getting accustomed to fishing in the grass instead of mangroves. I fish a mix of inshore, for Reds, Flounder, and Trout, as well as offshore on the reefs and then squeeze in a trip down south whenever I can. I still love Redfish and Snook, but to be honest, I don’t have a favorite species to catch. I am truly happy catching almost any type of fish, even small Mangrove Snapper (especially if the bite is good). I love the variety that the North Florida region offers me. I can catch Reds one day and then go 10 miles out and troll for Kingfish the next. I have even been lucky enough to catch a Snook in Jacksonville! My trophy fish to date is a beautiful Roosterfish that I landed on a trip to Costa Rica this past summer. My next goal is to land a Wahoo or a Cobia.
